East Dallas Hot Spots According to Paula Brunson

where to go for date night, get some “you time” and more

Paula Brunson, the CEO of d.RT Lifetsyle Brands, is raising her three boys (Cannen, 11, Finn, 9, and Ollie, 6) in the East Dallas neighborhood of Lakewood with husband Brian. She shares her favorite date night and girls’ night spots, her go-to for self-care and more.

Favorite family restaurant: My favorite family restaurant is Fireside Pies on Henderson. My husband and I have been regulars there since it opened; the staff have become like family over the years, and have watched each one of our children grow up. 2820 N. Henderson Ave., Dallas; 214/370-3916

Favorite local green space: I love the park at Lakewood Elementary. It is the heart of our neighborhood where kids of all ages gather, play on the playground and the new, beautiful basketball courts. 3000 Hillbrook St., Lakewood; 972/749-7300

Favorite family outing: We love to go for bike rides around White Rock Lake and stop for a picnic along the way. The kids grin from ear to ear!

Go-to date night and girls’ night spots: My husband and I like to try different restaurants for date night, but Café Pacific is a special place for us; they have the best peppercorn sauce around.  My girlfriends and I love the HG Sply Co. upper deck; it has such a great atmosphere, and you can’t beat the food and drinks. Café Pacific, 24 Highland Park Village, Highland Park; 214/526-1170; HG Sply Co., 2008 Greenville Ave., Dallas; 469/334-0895

For self-care: Exercise is really important to me, I spend a lot of time on the tennis courts, that is my happy place. It gets me outside and having fun. My other go-to self-care spot is Muse the Salon; Jackie and Dat are my beauty gurus! 2323 N. Henderson Ave., Suite 107, Dallas; 214/821-3434

Get active: Tennis, tennis and more tennis! I love the sunshine, the friends and the workout. It keeps my inner athlete fire alive!

Cool off: We spend a lot of time swimming at Lakewood Country Club in the summer.  Our favorite ice cream spot is definitely TCBY, but Creamistry on Greenville is a very close second! Lakewood Country Club, 6430 Gaston Ave., Dallas; 214/821-1491; TCBY, 6402 E. Mockingbird Lane, Lakewood; 214/821-5757; Creamistry, 1929 Greenville Ave., Dallas; 972/685-6512

Give back: My husband and I love to coach basketball; we love to coach our sons’ teams and all of their friends. It is so rewarding watching each boy’s individual improvement grow season over season.

Why Lakewood is a great place to raise a family: Lakewood is a community like no other. We have lived all over the world, and have never experienced such a tight knit, inclusive community as Lakewood, where golf carts, parades and kids are aplenty!

Find your tribe: I definitely found my mom friends through school and kids sports. As my kids have developed friendships, us moms have become great friends as well!
