At Lake Highlands School of Music, we emphasize two keys to reaching your potential as a musician. First, private instruction is the foundation for musical development. Your teacher will guide you through music fundamentals, sight reading, and the music you choose to explore, whether that is popular music, classical, or jazz. Developing good practice habits is essential, and will be addressed frequently during lessons. Second, community performance is the vital second part of the curriculum. Every student performs in recitals. Those students who are ready to share more are grouped together to form duos, trios, and eventually full bands. The stage motivates students artistically and socially; it incentivizes consistent practice.
