Additional information

David Ewalt, M.D., is a native Texan from El Paso who, as one of five boys in his family, was inspired to become a physician at an early age by his father who was a plastic surgeon and his mother, a registered nurse.

He received his bachelor's degree in chemistry from Texas Tech University in 1980 and graduated valedictorian in the College of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Ewalt continued his journey to become a doctor in Dallas and completed his medical degree at UT Southwestern Medical School in 1984. He went on to receive additional general surgical and urological training at UT Southwestern. This was followed by a two-year pediatric urology research and clinical fellowship at the prestigious Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, under the direction of Drs. John W. Duckett Jr. and Howard M. Snyder III, both renowned pioneers in reconstructive pediatric urology.

Dr. Ewalt returned to Dallas in 1992 to join the Urology faculty at UT Southwestern Medical School, with a sub-specialization in pediatric urology at Children's Medical Center of Dallas and Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. After three years of clinical practice, teaching and research, he entered private practice, devoting his entire efforts to the care of children with urological conditions.

Dr. Ewalt has been selected as a Top Doctor in America by Castle Connolly Medical and featured in Castle Connolly Medical's, America's Top Doctors book the last 15 years, and Texas Monthly "Super Doctors" for the last 15 years. Dr. Ewalt has been recognized by D Magazine as a "Best Pediatric Specialist" in 2004, 2007 and 2010-2018. He is currently board certified in urology with a special certificate of added qualification in pediatric urology.

He is married to Pamela Nurenberg, M.D., who is a radiologist. When not at work they play golf, cook and travel together.

Reader comments

Dr. Ewalt’s interaction with both my children and me is exceptional. He is able to switch between talking to them respectfully as patients (even at 4 years old) in words they can understand and then talking to me tactically about next steps without talking about my child right in front of her.

He is very responsive, answering portal questions quickly and providing advice, even providing us what was needed to gather samples at home when the office visit was stressful for one of our children. I recommend him to all of my friends looking for a pediatric urologist.
