Cutting Edge Hair

It’s finally fall – the season style guru Simon Doonan warned me about a few months ago as I hung onto his every word at a Barney’s book signing. Our colorful, maxidress-filled summer of psychedelic groovitude has ended, and it’s time to embrace the LBDs of autumn.

It’s also time to talk hair – the ultimate accessory.

Between the beach, pool chlorine and endless, brutal summer sun, hair color is all but begging for some TLC by now. At Moda Salon and Spa in Fort Worth and Arlington, they’re keeping locks looking lustrous with a tinting technique called “transparent color,” says education director Lawrie Wallace. This involves applying layers of Aveda colors that are close in tone, creating a look that’s natural but shimmers with added depth and shade. “It works on any hair color, from blue-black to vanilla blondes and caramel browns,” Wallace says. And, yes, it’ll even banish that gray. Because the color and pattern is so natural, it can actually extend the life of your color, giving you a few extra days before you have to race back to the salon to retouch those roots.

And, if you’re looking for a fresh-and-funky cut, try the “Chanel Bob.” Think robot combined with Playmobil figure crossed with the alien woman from Galaxy Quest. (I just got snipped and love it!)
