If you’ve considered giving back to your community, you may have struggled to pinpoint an opportunity that fits your skill set and interests. VolunteerMatch.org is simplifying this search by showcasing an ever-growing list of volunteer needs on the Web — at no cost to users or nonprofits.
“VolunteerMatch.org has more than 620 active volunteer opportunities in Dallas-Fort Worth right now,” says Robert Rosenthal, a representative for the Web site. “And it looks like hundreds [of opportunities] have been tagged as ‘great for kids’ or ‘great for teens.’”
Registered users may search the site for local volunteer opportunities by location, interest area or keyword. Or, step it up a notch and use the Google Earth search feature — this user-friendly option vividly represents the needs of local nonprofit organizations near your home. Flags tagged on to the surface of the interactive map represent volunteer opportunities; click on a flag and learn about the position’s required hours, location information and specifics about the volunteer work.
To ensure your peace of mind, utilizing VolunteerMatch.org guarantees the safety of each volunteer job — the site only allows approved nonprofits to post volunteer requests. However, this requirement doesn’t exclude smaller charities.
