– Climbing bridge with no rails on the new playground
Haslet is a thriving, growing town just north of Fort Worth that has an impressive park system. The older park, John Gammil Park, located on Gammil Street off of FM 156, is a peaceful, shaded place with picnic tables, a grill, water fountain and restrooms. You’ll spot old-time favorites – a tire swing, swing set, monkey bars and climbing structures, including a fire pole. There is a small playground in a fenced area, which is great for keeping toddlers close by.
Older kids would have more fun just a short walk along the trail that connects to the newer Haslet Community Park off of First Street, adjacent to Gammil Street. This park is definitely a winner and has something for everyone. The playground structure has the usual slides but with a couple of unusual features, including a climbing bridge that doesn’t have rails and made me a little nervous about falls off the side. A full basketball court, soccer fields, sand volleyball area, horseshoe pit and disc golf course give you such a variety that you’ll have no problem spending a full day there. The newer park also has restrooms, a water fountain, grills, tables under a pavilion and benches. An added bonus for the summer is a snow cone stand across the street. 301 First St. South.
