Ciara Smith’s Lancaster Favorites

parks, girls’ night spots and more

Marketing manager Ciara Smith loves raising her 2-year-old daughter Alora in the South Dallas neighborhood of Lancaster. “We can drive 15–20 minutes to be in downtown Dallas and have the city vibes and then go home to our quiet neighborhood,” Smith says. Check out her neighborhood picks.

Favorite local park: Klyde Warren Park. It has a lot of open space for Alora to run around, and she can also play in the water area which is always fun for the kids. We also don’t have to leave to eat, so it’s a one-stop-shop for everything for her! 2012 Woodall Rogers Fwy. Dallas; 214/716-4500

Favorite family outing: We like going to Peppa Pig World of Play in Grapevine, Texas. We also enjoy going to the Dallas Zoo and the Dallas Aquarium. Peppa Pig World of Play, 3000 Grapevine Mills Pkwy., Grapevine; 214/285-9110; Dallas Zoo, 650 RL Thornton Fwy., Dallas; 469/554-7501; The Dallas World Aquarium, 1801 N. Griffin St., Dallas; 214/720-2224

Go-to girls’ night spot: I really enjoy going to Deep Ellum with my friends. It’s not too far away, and there is a lot of different things to do in the area.

For self-care: We go to U Need Nails in Cedar Hill to get pedicures. We go there because they have kid spas, so Alora is able to sit in her own chair and get her toes done. 130 W. Belt Line Road, Cedar Hill; 972/291-0665

Get active: Go for a walk around our neighborhood!

Cool off: We like going to Braum’s Ice Cream. 720 Pleasant Run Road, DeSoto; 972/223-3150

Why Lancaster is a great place to raise a family: I love my neighborhood because it’s close to the city, but not the big city. We can drive 15–20 minutes to be in downtown Dallas and have the city vibes, then go home to our quiet neighborhood. All of the neighbors are nice, and we can go for a walk and not have to worry about anything.

Find your tribe: I went to school with the majority of my mom friends, but the new ones that I’ve made I connected with on social media and we just meet up, which is nice!
