Carla Coleman’s Favorite Things in Mansfield

great restaurants, nature trails and caring neighbors

If you want to know the ins and outs of Mansfield, Carla Coleman is the one to ask. The telecom company manager has been seeking out family fun in this growing part of Dallas-Fort Worth since her daughter Carly was born 16 years ago. Husband-and-father Anthony, a realtor, completes the family.

Favorite Family Restaurant: We love First Watch for breakfast or brunch. Our other choices just depend on what we are in the mood to eat. For Asian cuisine, we recommend Sake Hibachi Sushi & Bar. If you want a great steak, we love trusty Texas Roadhouse for dinner. The Mansfield location is truly like no other Roadhouse we’ve experienced.  If you want a nice fire-roasted pizza, the place to go is Palio’s. Mmmmm! Be sure to get a salad, too. First Watch, 1695 E. Broad St., Suite 111, Mansfield; 817/383-4036; Sake Hibachi Sushi & Bar, 100 W. Debbie Lane, Mansfield; 817/453-5888; Texas Roadhouse, 940 N. Highway 287, Mansfield; 682/518-6725

Best Park: Katherine Rose Memorial Park is one of the biggest parks for families in Mansfield. It’s just a cool place. Whether you want to sit and read a book, take a jog, let the kids play at a playground or maybe just fly a kite, it’s the place to be. 303 N. Walnut Creek Drive, Mansfield; 817/473-1943

Favorite Family Outing: When it’s time to hang out, we usually frequent neighboring Arlington Highlands for a retail therapy! It’s less than 9 miles up the road, and there are multiple stores from which to shop and find that perfect piece to my already-full closet. Interstate 20 & Matlock Road, Arlington; 817/466-7474

Go-To for Going Out: Lately, date nights and girls nights have been where we can find patios. One go-to place is Fish City Grill. 581 W. Debbie Lane, Mansfield; 817/225-2094

Self-Care Spot: Upscale Nails Bar is my spot for me-time. I’m always more relaxed when I leave that place. 3550 E. Broad St., Suite 100, Mansfield; 682/400-8159, search Upscale Nails Bar Mansfield on Facebook

Where She Gets Active: I personally love bike riding. But there are a few nature trails in Mansfield that are nice to walk. One of the most popular is Elmer W. Oliver Nature Park. It’s beautiful. 1650 Matlock Road, Mansfield; 817/473-1943

For Cooling Off: Our favorite waterpark is Epic Waters in neighboring Grand Prairie, but the second-best place is Mansfield favorite Hawaiian Falls. Epic Waters, 2970 Epic Place, Grand Prairie; 972/337-3131; Hawaiian Falls, 490 Heritage Parkway S., Mansfield; 817/853-0050

How They Give Back: We give and partner with our church—Word of Truth Family Church—often to serve the community. During the pandemic, we were able to feed multiple families through the food drive at my church. 8201 Webb Ferrell Road, Arlington; 817/453-8222

Why Mansfield is Great for Families: In my experience, everyone in Mansfield is considerate and caring. Everyone from the grocery store clerk to our Mansfield police officers: All our essential workers are generous, and everyone I’ve met has a servant’s heart. It’s a beautiful sight to see. During our wild winter storm blackout in February, my neighbors were giving and lending hands to people they didn’t even know, with no concern for safety or being taken advantage of by others.

How She Met Her Mom Friends: I met them through Facebook. There’s a Mansfield mom Facebook page I joined, and many other local social groups increase support for moms.
