VIBE This is chic Tex-Mex dining. Cantina Laredo’s honey-tone walls and black leather booths say urban modern, and at lunch time, gents in business suits sit cheek by jowl with guys in cowboy hats and leather jackets. Seated in a large, open dining room, you’ll find that chips with warm salsa arrive quickly, and the wait staff is muy attentive.
The menu is based on the sophisticated cuisine of Mexico City. Specialties include Camerones Escondidos, shrimp-stuffed chicken breast with chipotle-wine sauce, and Fiesta Grill, a combination fajita plate with not only beef and chicken – but also quail, shrimp, carnitas and costillas (pork ribs). You’ll see enchiladas with spinach, chicken with mole sauce and a fresh catch of the day.
WHY IT'S TOT-FRIENDLY The salsa is not too spicy, so you can get the kids going on the chips right away. And Cantina Laredo has not one, but two kid menus.
BE SURE TO TRY The Top Shelf Guacamole, which couldn’t be fresher. The waiter makes it just for you, at your table in a three-legged bowl.
GOOD TO KNOW Kids can get what they’re hungry for. The children’s menus include nachos, ribs, tacos, quesadillas, chicken fingers and, yes, corndogs.
BEST TIME TO GO WITH KIDS Try Sunday afternoon or any weekday from 1-4.
