Bonding Over Chick Flicks

At the risk of sounding sexist, it’s been easier to find bonding moments with my two boys than my tween daughter, Lily. It’s not that she doesn’t like watching the Mavs or playing video games, but the commitment is just not there. I did find it, though, in one guilty pleasure for which my boys ridicule me mercilessly – my love of chick flicks. Lily loves watching them with me, loves watching me choke back tears at their schmaltzy sentimentality. So in the spirit of Father’s Day, I offer up the Top 10 Most Bondable Father/Daughter Chick Flicks (caveat: some are PG-13):

What a Girl Wants – American girl wants to know British dad.

Bend It Like Beckham – Indian girl wants to play soccer, still cook with curry.

13 Going On 30 – Jennifer Garner wants popularity, maturity and Mark Ruffalo.

Sleepless in Seattle – Meg Ryan wants to meet Tom Hanks and does … finally.

Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants – Four girls want the same pair of pants.

No Reservations – Catherine Zeta-Jones wants to be top chef and top guardian.

27 Dresses – Katherine Heigl tires of being bridesmaid; wants to be bride.

Definitely, Maybe – Abigail Breslin wants to know about her dad’s love life.

The Tourist – Angelina Jolie wants to know who she’s kissing in Italy.

Legally Blonde – Reese Witherspoon wants a law degree, pedicure for Chihuahua.
