Big Lake Park in Plano

Location: 3800 Rainier Road in Plano, north of Parker next to Christie Elementary School.

What makes it noteworthy: This vibrant red, yellow and blue playground is fun for kids of all ages. The play area designed for older kids has five slides — including a triple racing slide — plus a telescope, built-in music station, climbing walls and four swings (one is therapeutic). Separated by a sidewalk is the play area for younger kids, with a double racing slide, built-in insect toy and two baby swings. Tots can also bounce around in a miniature school bus or make music in the music hut.

Extras: There are no restrooms, but families can cool off by the beautiful lake that gives the park its name. Take a stroll along the walking trail, or take a break at picnic tables under the shade of nearby trees.

Safety: This playground received an A* on the Playground Safety Report Card. The playground is in good condition and the wood chips are free of litter — just watch your water babies, as there’s no fence to separate the playground from the water.
