Big Easy New Orleans Style Sandwiches

Vibe
Nestled near I-75 in east Plano, Big Easy New Orleans Style Sandwiches dishes out Cajun cuisine par excellence. It’s a casual café in the mode of its namesake’s French Quarter, where you order at the counter and hear your food announced by a bell – all with jazz tunes playing over the speakers and Mardi Gras masks on the walls (which the young ones are sure to appreciate). The décor is not particularly memorable, but the laid-back New Orleans vibe is perfect for savoring some tasty bayou cookin’.

Why It’s Tot-friendly
Not everything on Big Easy’s menu is heavy on Cajun seasoning; their kids’ menu includes a corn dog and chicken strips. If your kids are into seafood, they can try the kids’ popcorn shrimp or catfish. Older kids (or less adventurous adults) will appreciate the burgers, and salads are available as a healthier option for all. Plus, the kids’ meals are all under $5, and the whole family can eat a delicious meal (with leftovers to go) for $10-$15 per person. It’s the cheapest – and best – Cajun feast around. High chairs and booster seats are available for tiny diners.

Be Sure to Try
For an appetizer, try the Fried Green Tomatoes – dusted with Parmesan and served with remoulade that’s sure to wake you up. Then bite into a Fried Oyster Po-Boy or the Tilapia Ponchartrain, a frequent special. The Étouffée (shrimp, crawfish or catfish) is always a winner, too.

Did We Mention?
Big Easy makes homemade desserts, including New Orleans style pralines (that’s “prah-lines” to you) and a divine peanut butter chocolate pie. You can take home a hefty slice of the latter for $2.99.

Best Times to Go with Kids
Big Easy has two good-sized dining rooms, so there’s always a place to sit. If you’re worried about wandering kiddos or noise control, head to the back room where it’s likely to be less crowded.
