Beavers Bend Park in Frisco

Neighbors introduce their dogs at this friendly park. Passing joggers smile and wave. Parents interact with their children on the jungle gym and teach them about the mock dinosaur skeleton that resides under the climbing wall. But despite the family-friendly atmosphere, the playground earned a B on DallasChild’s Safety Report Card.*

Surrounded by picnic tables and jogging paths, the playground is easily accessible from Legacy Drive. It boasts a large play structure perfect for school-aged kids with a kid-sized rock wall and a network of slides and stairs. Children ages 2-5 can blow off energy on the freestanding swing set or the smaller play structure nearby, which also features several slides, ladders and tires.

The downfall of this playground is that it lacks signage, both regarding expected behavior and for denoting separate areas for school children and toddlers. Some of the equipment is too tall, and in case of a fall, there is not enough loose fill to provide adequate cushion—no matter how much “junk might be in the trunk.”

This review was distributed to the City of Frisco Parks and Recreation for further review and/or action.
