Heather Williams is mother to 7-year-old Reese and fortunate to be step-mom to 21-year-old Austen and 16-year-old Jessie. She is a homeschool mama who lives in Flower Mound with her retired husband, Jeff.
7:15AM Wake up. Hubby usually is awake first, but he’s been sick so I turn off the outside lights and open all the windows. Cold mornings are the best!
7:40AM Make a plate of breakfast for Reese. He’s still asleep, and I’m off to the grocery store soon, so Hubby will give him breakfast when he gets up.
7:55AM Stop by McDonalds on the way to the store for a Diet Dr. Pepper. I don’t drink coffee, so this is my morning pick-me-up today!
9:00AM Leave the grocery store. Give the evil eye to a young lady who leaves her shopping cart in the middle of the parking lot. That’s one of my pet peeves.
9:15AM As I’m pulling into the driveway, I see Reese pull back the shades and wave with a big smile on his face. Missed our normal morning hugs!
9:25AM Light a pumpkin scented candle and put the groceries away.
9:30AM Make a light breakfast for hubby. Reese asked for “breakfast lunch” today, so I take out some turkey sausage to defrost.
10:00AM Unload and reload dishwasher. I normally do one load of laundry a day, but I’m all caught up, so nothing to put in this morning! Send Reese to brush his teeth and get dressed. We’re having school outside on the patio today because the weather is so perfect!
10:15AM We recite the Pledge of Allegiance and I work with Reese on grammar, reading, phonics, math and logic problems. When he’s working independently on things, I check email and play Wordfeud on my phone.
11:30AM Make sure Jeff took his pain meds.
Noon Lunch break. Send a text to my mom about her weekend church retreat and find out how it went.
12:40PM Take a quick shower while Reese finishes lunch. We’re visiting some friends this afternoon and I’d rather not look like a ragamuffin!
1:00PM After we’re done with lunch, we head back outside. We finish math, spelling, Bible study and history. Math is my least favorite subject in the whole world, but I hide it and try to make it fun.
2:15PM We head to the kitchen to make a pumpkin pie together. Reese likes to measure and pour, so now there’s sugar all over the counter. Oh well! Clean up our large mess in the kitchen. Reese turns the hand vacuum into a laser gun and shoots me.
2:40PM Make lunch for Hubby. Flat iron my hair.
2:50PM Unload dishwasher and wash pots and pans. Dishes twice in one day? Ugh.
3:07PM Rummage through gift-wrapper bin and try to find cute “girl” wrapping stuff for a birthday present. A Scooby Doo bag will have to do.
3:52PM On our way to a play date. The Black Eyed Peas’ “Boom Boom Pow” is playing on the radio. We roll the windows down, turn up the music and dance in the car!
4:00PM Arrive at our friend’s house. I catch up with my good friend while Reese plays with his buddies. He found a karaoke machine at the house, and I’m afraid his comedy lounge act needs some work.
5:11PM Time to head to baseball practice. Reese is not very happy he has to leave his friends.
7:17PM Finished with baseball practice. We stop at Kroger and make a freecycle pick up.
7:38PM Head for Mickey D’s drive thru. I have a hungry boy in the car and by the time we get home and I actually make something, it will be too late.
8:10PM Pull into the garage. Reese is out cold in the car. I carry him in, but he wakes up.
8:25PM Pack our backpack for the State Fair tomorrow. We’re meeting our home school buddies early in the morning.
8:30PM Reese asks to go outside to look at the stars with the Google SkyMap app on my phone. While we’re outside, we visit with our nice neighbor.
9:00PM Put Reese in the bath to wash off the baseball dirt.
9:20PM Make Reese get out of the bath. Was informed he was drinking the bath water.
9:30PM Take the dogs out to potty before bed. Take a fat toad out of the pool and check the egg sacs of our resident orb weaver spiders to see if the babies have come out yet.
9:39PM Brush teeth and head for bed. Reese snuggles in bed with us and we watch MythBusters. He falls asleep fast and I carry him to his bed. I am about to fall asleep myself. It’s been a busy day!
