5 Books to Help Your Kid Move to a Big Kid Bed

help the transition go as smooth as possible

Toddlerhood is full of milestones that are breadcrumbs to creating a functioning, independent adult (that’s the goal, right?).

And moving your child from a crib to a bed is one of those milestones that many parents are equal parts excited and terrified. There are many different strategies for making this a smooth transition, but one thing that most strategies include is preparing your child for this milestone by giving them books about moving to a big-kid bed.

Here are five books to help your child make this move easily (and without tears).

Big Enough for a Bed (Sesame Street) // Amazon, $4.99
If your kiddo loves Elmo, this board book is perfect for getting your child excited about their new bed.

Big Bed for Giraffe // Amazon, $6.99
This Hello Genius book series is bright and graphic, and is awesome to help kids get ready for a variety of different transitions, such as moving from a bottle to a sippy cup to brushing your teeth and having a playdate. The book for transitioning from a crib to a bed with a cute giraffe will help your child see the good in this big change.

A Big Kids Bed is Coming (How to Transition and Keep Your Toddler in Bed) // Amazon, $14.34
This fun book tells the story of Louie the elephant who has grown too big for his crib. It’s a great book for kids who may be a little nervous about the new sleeping digs.

Your Own Big Bed // Amazon, $13.72
This beautifully illustrated book takes a different approach to the transition of a big kid bed by showing your kiddo that all animals move into bigger places when they grow up, so they should too!

A Big Bed for Jed // Amazon, $21.20
A Big Bed for Jed is the perfect antidote for your child who has some true fear about moving from a crib to a big kid bed.
