Alissa McBurney’s Little Elm Picks

things to do and places to go

Alissa McBurney is a mom, bonus mom and the McBurney Home CFO. She lives in the Little Elm neighborhood of Sunset Pointe along with her husband Marty and four children: Kennedy, 11, Blakelee, 4, and twins Audrey and Luke, 1. The family’s word of the year is “improve, so they’re tackling a new DIY project around the house each month, having too much fun with a Date Night Bucket List (from Uncommon Goods) and spiritually seeking to become more like Jesus.

Favorite family restaurant Hat Creek Burger Co. As a family, we love to be outside playing. Here we can enjoy a night out like we are on our back porch, minus the cooking and cleanup!

Best park Little Elm Parkreally, it has everything. Kennedy and I love to take our kayaks out on the lake, there’s a playground that even wears my hubby out, sand volleyball, the littles love the beach and making new friends, and easy access to a sweet treat.

Favorite family outing We are a family of six; it’s a crowd wherever we go. We enjoy bike rides to McCord Park with a pit stop for $5 smoothies at Smoothie King on Fridays, or daytime movies at Flix Brewhouse. My kids always feel a bit more glamorous seeing a movie thereand I guess so do I!

For a night out Marty and I are crazy simple. We can pick up Margarita Hut and his two left feet, park at Little Elm Beach and have the best time. And the only place for a ladies brunch getaway is Barneysyum!

Self-care spot I really enjoy Glow Nail Bar. It’s clean and refreshing! I can get rid of my sandpaper feet, brighten up my nails, get a massage and enjoy a nonshareable drink.

Go-to for getting active Being outside—hiking trails, walking the neighborhood to see friends, feeding ducks at the pond and actually playing with my kids on the playground.

For cooling off  If we aren’t in our pool out back, then we are at Little Elm Beach or Hydrous Wake Park for the inflatable or lessons on the board.

How they give back The best way is just showing youre available, extending a simple hello, being where you are, exactly when you are there. Our local church family also does a great job of keeping us engaged with not just businesses and town events, but the people. CrossRidge Church wholeheartedly cares about every street and address number!

How she found her mom squad Invited our neighbors to a gathering at the house, where we won them over with La Azteca Meat Market fajitas, and promised the best doughnut in town was at Bakers Dozen right before the Sunday service at CrossRidge. Been doing life together ever since.

Why Little Elm is great for families You can have the smalltown riches with the big city feels. Not too little, not too big, but just right.
