Tyne Berlanga and husband Hector have lived in Frisco since 2006. “I remember when 121 was a two-lane road, and the area next to our first house was a cow pasture that quickly turned into a grocery store. It’s been amazing to see it grow,” says Berlanga, a brand ambassador coordinator for Western Son Vodka and mom to Joy, 14, and Cruz, 10. There’s now plenty to keep the family busy—even right on their street. “We found a gem of a neighborhood where we have fun parties, and everyone looks out for each other.”
Favorite family restaurant We love The Grind. They have a great menu, a full bar for the parents and games for the kids to play on the patio. After dinner we can walk to Bruster’s and get ice cream.
Best park There is a great park and open area behind Independence High School called Yucca Ridge Park. It has a big playground, basketball courts and fields. My kids love riding their bikes there and meeting up with friends.

Favorite family outing We love taking our kids to the skate park—Frisco has opened an awesome facility on our side of town. The kids take their scooters and skateboard, and we can hang out all day. There is also a pond and walking trails; it’s really nice.

For a night out Eight11 is our go–to for a night out. You can’t beat its prosciutto pizza and sitting outside by the fire pit with a glass of wine and a s’mores board—yes, please!

Self-care spot The spa at Craig Ranch is great. They offer all the services and even have child care.

Go-to for getting active Our area is great for walking; we have lots of paths that wind through our neighborhoods. We have a group of friends who meet up to walk, and we have a loop we call “3–mile therapy.” It’s perfect.
For cooling off Apex Centre has a great pool and with a lazy river and water slides. My kids love swimming there, and they even have snow cones.

How she gives back I have always been involved at my children’s schools. From PTA to booster clubs, I feel like that is the easiest way to make an impact and an excellent way to support those awesome teachers.
How she found her mom squad I have been lucky to find my mom squad through the kids’ school and sports as well as our neighborhood. The best thing you can do to meet people is get involved.
It may be a little intimidating at first, but you have to put yourself out there. You will find your people; just give it time. And once your kid is in elementary school, get up there and volunteer. You won’t regret it.
Why Frisco is great for families We love living in East Frisco. We have been in the area for almost 14 years and have seen it grow. We love the diversity, small schools and community our neighborhood provides. We are thrilled we get raise our kids in this area.
