Playground Review: Preston Meadow Park

this Plano park has a lot to offer littles and big kids alike

Location: 4243 Lorimar Drive, Plano. This park is directly east of Daffron Elementary School at the corner of Lorimar Drive and Preston Meadow Drive.

Best for: Children of various ages who have all the energy. The park consists of a north and south side separated by sport fields. There are three baseball fields, two of them separated by a field that could be used for soccer, Frisbee or football. There are also three full playgrounds—one on the south side for ages 212, and two on the north side for ages 212 and 512 where kids can slide, swing and climb. It’s also connected to the Preston Ridge trail, perfect for biking, running or walking. Finally, there’s a multi-use court near the school that is available for those basketball aficionados.

For your convenience: Each side has a pavilion with tables and grills for group gatherings or parties, or just a nice shady seat with views of the playgrounds. The north side also has an adaptive swing for kids with special needs next to the baby swings and big kid swings. Best of all, there are restrooms and plenty of parking. If you plan to play on the south side, there’s a parking lot off LorimarThis lot is a bit of a walk if you want to go to the north side, so parking in the school lot, off Preston Meadow, would be more convenient. Near the playgrounds, there are multiple benches for your use, though not all are shaded.

Safety: The playground and sport fields are well maintained and very clean. Because of how spread out the park is, you’ll want to keep a watchful eye on the kiddos.

Overall grade: 5/5 swings

Pluses:
+ Variety of play features
+ Shaded seats under the pavilions
+ Partially shaded playground areas
+ Water fountain
+ Restrooms
+ Adaptive swing
+ Plenty of parking

Minuses:
Mulch surface can lead to scrapes
– Very spread outcould be difficult to keep an eye on the littles
