Schools have officially closed, and summertime is in session. This 3-month long holiday is exciting for the kiddos, but it can be a bit overwhelming for the parents. How will you keep them from getting bored or wasting away the sunny days on Netflix and Xbox? We can think of quite a few options and spending a day at the Fort Worth Zoo is at the top of that list. Need help hatching a game plan? We’ve got the ultimate guide to the attractions you can’t pass up at the Fort Worth Zoo.

An African Safari Awaits

Get an early start when doors open at 10am and begin your adventure at the new African Savanna! Spread over 10 acres, the Savanna allows guests to see giraffes, springbok, ostriches and more all in one exhibit. Reticulated giraffes, African antelopes and many exotic birds share the open plains modeled after African grassland; guests can even feed the gentle giants from the raised observation deck. Next, marvel at the varying shades of pink in the Savanna’s watering holes as flocks of flamingos socialize, then get an up-close experience with the hippos through the 70-foot-long underwater viewing area and wonder at the magnificent southern black rhino as it roams the savanna.

Feeling famished after that unforgettable experience? Enjoy a snack with a view in a nicely shaded area, soak up the sounds of the birds and gaze at the sights of the Savanna at one of the African-themed snack stands that border the exhibit.

Meet the Stingrays and Sharks That Live at Stingray Cove

Want to see a world of underwater fun? The all-new, interactive exhibit will transport you to the shallow sandbars of the ocean where sharks and stingrays live and play. See 5 aquatic species, feel the soft, slimy and smooth stingrays as they swim by and get face to fin with some of the oceans most captivating animals as you feed them yourself!

Round-Up at Children’s Ranch

After your sea life adventure, you can make your way to the newest attraction, Toyota Children’s Ranch and Petting Corral. Fulfill your farm dreams through fun activities and interact with over 40 animals. Brush a goat, pan for gems and fossils on the mining sluice, roam free with your favorite fur friends and meet some new ones in this hands-on adventure. Goats, sheep, pigs, miniature donkeys, chickens and snakes are just a few animal friends you’ll get to meet.

The exhibit will also feature a dedicated education and demonstration space where guests can learn from zookeepers about the animals and the care they receive.
