Score a Slam Dunk With an All-Star Basketball Birthday Party

Dribble & drool over this party action

Teresa Truong knew she was destined to throw a basketball bash for her son Nixon when at 11 months, he took his first steps toward a baby hoop with ball in hand. With help from her party planner Tisha Lovato, Truong hosted a Michael Jordan-themed first birthday complete with a cake modeled after Baby Air Jordan III Retros — Nixon’s first pair of shoes.

Guests sporting jerseys scribbled their names on scorecards and recorded the number of free throws, slam dunks and longest shots they could swoosh through the toddler net. All kid contestants took home candy trophies, gold medals (Oreos frosted in gold icing) and paper Air Jordans filled with gumballs and sugar cookies.

Post half-time nap, Nixon tackled his strawberry smash cake while his grandma dished up homemade fried rice to accompany Babe’s Chicken catering for the 100 guests. For dessert, guests indulged on macarons decorated as basketballs and took home a box of Wheaties featuring Nixon’s face. But the birthday boy and his guests weren’t the only winners of the night; Lovato gifted Truong a poster of Nixon’s milestones dubbed “First Season Highlights.”
