Want to your kids to have more chances to learn while they’re out of school? Try these educational apps to keep your kids on the right track. They’re worth the additional screen time!
1. Scholastic
With apps ranging from WordGirl Superhero Training to The Magic School Bus, Scholastic covers a lot of material. Plus, with kids out of the classroom, Scholastic put together a Learn From Home website with four categories based on school grades. The site provides for up to three hours worth of free content each day.
2. Duolingo
Sign your kid up to learn a new language! The app is very user-friendly, rating for 4 years and older, and offers lessons in languages including French, German, Spanish—even Navajo and Japanese. A subscription is required, but the kids’ Duolingo ABC, made for 5 and under, is completely free.

3. DragonBox
DragonBox offers a ton of apps to choose from. All are specifically geared toward math and categorized by age. These are not free, however. Some apps cost $4.99, others $7.99 or $9.99.
4. Khan Academy Kids
This app is great for kids ages 2–7 and totally free—no ads or subscriptions. Some of the subjects include reading, writing, math, as well as social-emotional skill building.
5. PBS Kids Games
These are available online as well as in app. And the games are endless—play jeopardy while learning about the ecosystem of a jungle, dig for fossils, build a rocket ship and learn about space. The list goes on.
6. Noggin Preschool Learning App
Do you have a preschooler? This may be the app for you. For $7.99 per month, your kiddos have access to over 1,000 episodes of their favorite shows (Hello, Peppa Pig) that you can download and watch offline, as well as educational games and books.
7. Reading Eggs
Does your child need a little more help with reading? Check out this app that uses interactive games, guided reading lessons, activities and over 2,000 digital story books. Great for ages 2–13 and there’s a two-week free trial available.
8. ABCmouse
Great for kids ages 2–8, this app keeps kids engaged in reading, math, science and arts and colors. With over 9,000 activities, your littles will be extra busy. Right now, your first month is free; after that, the subscription is $9.95 per month.
9. NASA
Did you know NASA has an app? The free app includes images, on-demand videos, NASA TV, mission information, satellite tracking and much more.
10. Leapfrog
Leapfrog is a classic—and it has everything with characters from Frozen, PAW Patrol, Trolls and PJ Masks that will help your kiddo with their reading. Apps and games vary in price.
