Cheer on local equestrians with disabilities as they perform at this annual event before the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo opens on January 12, and are awarded ribbons and belt buckles during the three-day competition. Approximately 220 local equestrians with disabilities from 13 North Texas therapeutic riding centers will participate.
Monday, January 8, 9am–7pm: American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA), the largest show in the country for equestrians with disabilities. Competitions include: showmanship, walk and trot hunt seat equitation on the flat, walk and jog Western horsemanship, walk, trot/jog trail horse class, a canter/lope hunt, Western and trail class.
Tuesday, January 9, 8:30am–7pm and Wednesday, January 9, 9am–4pm: North Texas Area Therapeutic Riding Centers will participate in the show. The equestrians will compete in events such as English equitation, Western equitation, Western riding, showmanship, barrels, pole bending, drill team, driving and trail.
Tuesday, January 9: Opening ceremonies for the Chisholm Challenge begin at 8:30am. Riders post the colors, one rider will sing the national anthem, and every riding center participating this year will be introduced.
At 1pm, performance by Michael Richardson of Broken R Ranch in Hico, Texas. Richardson is a paraplegic who rides and trains horses from his wheelchair, working with works with veterans and others.
