Waco native, Dallas transplant and first-time mom Brittany Sargent was craving watermelon and Popsicles in her final trimester, so event planner Emily Clarke designed a Southern summer picnic shower to celebrate baby Catherine. Sixty guests gathered in Clarke’s Dallas backyard to raise a glass of ice pop-dipped rosé to the Southern girl-to-be.

The “Ripe and Ready”-themed invitations complemented the equally fresh strawberry centerpieces and vases of hydrangeas and ranunculus in full bloom. As a nod to the gents in attendance, Clarke balanced the feminine vibes with pops of green and a hearty, homestyle picnic spread with fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy from Bubba’s Cooks Country.

For dessert, guests made their own strawberry shortcakes by piling strawberries and whipped cream into store-bought sponge cake shells.

Before leaving the picnic with monogrammed bottle- and rattle-shaped cookies favors, guests snapped Polaroids in the mobile photo booth and taped them to the guestbook as a souvenir for baby Catherine.
