Party inspiration can strike anywhere — Rachel Sam took the farm theme for her son Henry’s first birthday from his favorite bouncy seat at day care. She ordered red-white-and-blue invitations from Chips & Salsa Designs, hired a baby-friendly petting zoo and partnered with Parties on the Porch to bring a modern farm vibe to her Frisco neighborhood community center.

Before indulging in vanilla cake from TraceyCakes, Henry’s 80 friends and family wet their whistles with a catered spread from Hutchins BBQ. The birthday boy nibbled his own white-iced vanilla smash cake, and guests visited the candy bar to scoop up nostalgic sweets like Oh Henry bars, Bit-O-Honey and rock candy.

To keep the farm scene “classic but modern,” Berkley Berry of Parties on the Porch mixed white porcelain animals from HomeGoods with more rustic elements like sunflowers, wooden crates and vintage glass bottles, including an old-fashioned ring toss game to entertain the littlest guests.
