Location: 2905 Alta Mesa Drive, Dallas. Located about one mile north of Interstate 20, east of Lancaster Road in a residential neighborhood.

Why it’s noteworthy: Alta Mesa Park has two play structures and swings for older and younger kids — all surrounded by trees and grassy spaces. Big kids will like the monkey bars, tube slide and twisty slide on their play structure. The play structure for ages 2–5 is very simple with only one slide, but the spring toys are sure to be a hit.

Extras: Concrete sidewalks wind throughout the park, making it easy to keep up with your kids if you have a stroller to push. There are benches, grills and picnic tables all around the park. Don’t forget to bring a basketball; the courts are right behind the playground.

Safety: Alta Mesa Park scored an A* on the Safety Report Card. The play structure for ages 2–5 is low to the ground, which should help prevent serious injuries if there are any tumbles. The design of the equipment makes it easy to keep an eye on your kids no matter where they are.
