Activities: Building Blocks is an early childhood camp focusing on developing social communication, language, and play skills for young children with social communication challenges. Each classroom will be led by a speech-language pathologist with expertise in this population; staffed by graduate student assistants; and supervised by Texas Social Communication Director, Michelle McFarlin, MS, CCC/SLP, speech-language pathologist, social communication/autism expert and curriculum writer. The ratio in each classroom will be no more than 2 children to one adult. Intervention techniques utilized are consistent with naturalistic behavioral theory, developmental theory, the SCERTS model (Prizant, Wetherby, Rubin, & Laurent), the Early CLASS (Facilitating Early Social Communication) developmental theory and techniques, and elements of Social Thinking (Michelle Garcia Winner) as appropriate to the individual children in the group. "Right fit" campers: -- are 3 to 5-years old -- may have speech/language delays -- may have social communication challenges, including difficulty with social conversation -- may have difficulty with play skills, including pretend play and joint play with peers -- may have difficulty with classroom skills, including participating in group activities -- may have sensory processing difficulties -- may have an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) diagnosis All camp activities will be held at Highland Park Presbyterian Church. Proposed camp dates are: Session 1: July 18-20, July 25-27 Session 2: August 1-3, August 8-10

The mission of the Texas Social Communication Connection is three-fold: -- to educate and empower families of children with social communication challenges; -- to help them to succeed in their community; and -- to design and implement innovative and highly individualized therapy programming to facilitate the best outcomes for children with social communication challenges.


The Texas Social Communication Connection is a Dallas-based, speech-language pathology driven company aimed at helping each child reach his/her highest potential by having a thorough understanding of each child as an individual. We offer comprehensive speech-langauge evaluations, social communication screenings, parent training, small group programs, individual speech-language therapy, and educational consulting for children with social communication challenges.
